Perceptions of genetically modified (GM) and organic food among North Dakota college students were elicited and compared. Participants responded to one of two survey instruments containing identical wording except for reference to genetic modification or organic, after reading a primer defining the term used in their instrument. Participants' indicated their level of agreement with statements in the construct areas of health, environment, ethics, regulation, and risk. Responses were compared among survey instruments and to responses to previous surveys of Americans and of shoppers in North Dakota. Organic food was perceived as a healthier and safer choice. Organic practices were perceived to be more environmentally sound. Respondents expressed a... |

The aim of the study was to assess the effects of groundnut shells on soil properties, growth and yield of maize. The study was carried out in Jalingo, Taraba State, North-Eastern Nigeria in July, 2019. Treatments in the study were four doses of groundnut shells (0.0, 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 t ha-1); arranged in a randomized complete block design, replicated four times. Each plot was 2.0 m × 2.0 m with 0.5 m gap between the plots and replicates. Crushed groundnut shells were applied on a dry matter basis at the rates of 0, 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 t ha-1 28 days before planting maize. Seeds were planted on prepared land treated with crushed groundnut shells. Soil properties were determined at harvest, maize growth parameters were determined at 50% flowering and maize... |

The application of organic fertilizer to the soil is considered as good agricultural practice because it improves the fertility of the soil and plant quality. The aim of the study was to produce compost tea using poultry droppings, cow dungs and water leaf (Talinum triangulare) in a ratio 5:5:1 and evaluate its effects on soil properties, growth and yield of Amaranthus hybridus. The study was carried out in Jalingo, Taraba State, North-Eastern Nigeria in July, 2019. The experimental variables include control (no treatment), 1 kg of compost per 10 L of water compost tea, 1 kg of compost per 20 L of water compost tea, 1 kg of compost per 30 L of water compost tea, 500 kg ha-1solid compost and 500kg ha-1 NPK fertilizer. The treatment combinations were done in... |

Consumer requirements for preferably new, quality products with health guarantees are causing competitive adaptation by agro-food businesses. In this sense, cheese-producing enterprises are immersed in restructuring to adapt to the new scene. To assure the greatest possible success in this process it is advisable to determine what the preferences of cheese consumers are. In searching for the answer to this question, 420 surveys were made on regular food shoppers for at-home consumption in the metropolitan area of Madrid (Spain). Treatment of this data consisted in using the Conjoint Analysis technique and maximum willingness to pay. Results show that the main differentiating element for cheese is origin and the maximum willing to pay for an organic cheese... |
